Six months ago, I set myself the challenge of completing 50 rock studies. I had long avoided drawing environments, so this was a way of breaking that bad habit. Rocks seemed like a great place to start, since they are a common background element. They also allowed me to focus on shape language and rendering without having to worry too much about perspective and construction.
After six months of studies, here's the final result! I completed the drawing on the left at the end of April, and the drawing on the right at the end of October. I'm very happy with the improvement.
